Born in Cape Town, Gad Kaplan attended UCT where he holds a post-graduate degree in Comparative Mysticism. He started writing about wine at the end of 2000 and has since written on a freelance basis for The Cape Times and the Mail & Guardian and WINE.CO.ZA, Grape and Leadership magazine. At one stage he was the main wine writer for Highbury Monarch Communications where he wrote for Equinox and American Express.
Gad sees himself as an intellectual wine writer rather than a news wine writer. In between his wine writing career he also took time off in 2004 and 2009 to write two books on mysticism.
He now hopes to work for himself in harmony and not in competition with the wine industry, as well as with other wine publications. However, I will not write for people who’s wines values are incongruous with my own values.
